See Everybody In The Second Round
Little reverse sweep action never hurt anybody right? Finally, a team that refused to blow out any opponent this year no matter how shitty they were, the Celtics came into Game 6 and played assertive basketball from the jump and make this a fully enjoyable 48 minute performance. To be fair, the Bulls clearly gave up, but this does not change the fact that this team climbed back from down 0-2 and just won four in a row. They won every road game they played, and that’s pretty important this time of year. Rondo getting hurt was a prayer, but that doesn’t undermine how much better the Celtics played. Just a gutsy performance from a team who has gone through hell together over the last few weeks.
At the end of the day guys like Horford and Avery helped pick up the slack for Isaiah’s poorish shooting, and considering secondary scoring is so crucial for this team’s success, it’s great that both showed up in a big way. Stevens hoped water would find it’s level and boy did it. The Celtics shot the ball like they wanted no part of a Game 7 and they came out, got the lead early, and never looked back. The real question is how much can you take away from this series? A 1 seed beat an 8 seed big deal. Nobody is throwing this team a parade, they SHOULD advance past the first round, but the takeaway is more around how they did it. It’s not like winning four on the road after dropping the first two at home is all that common.
We now turn the page to Washington in round two. Chances are many will say the Celtics have no shot in that series. I say this team is riding a four game winning streak and we haven’t even seen their best basketball yet. The Celtics are going to have to play MUCH better if they want to keep playing past the next round, and I think we all agree it’s going to be a great series.
For now, please join me for an ice cold glass of Fuck You Kool Aid. The Celtics are moving on.
